In 1993's So I Married an Axe Murderer Mike Myers' character's father (also played by Myers) has this memorable quote:

It's a well known fact, Sonny Jim, that there's a secret society of the five wealthiest people in the world, known as The Pentavirate, who run everything in the world, including the newspapers, and meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows... The Queen, The Vatican, The Gettys, The Rothschilds, *and* Colonel Sanders before he went tits up. 

 If the movie were made today, Colonel Sanders could be replaced with Apple:

At $500 Billion, Apple Is Worth As Much as Toyota, Volkswagen, Daimler, Honda, Ford, Nissan, and GM Combined

Since early 2011, Apple and Exxon have been in a neck and neck race for the title of world's biggest company (by market cap). As of today's market close, Apple (499.20B) was in the lead by more than $88B.


At $535 per share, Apple is also bigger than the economies of Pakistan, Colombia and Sweden--to name a few. 


Bonus fact: Back in December 2010 James Altucher predicted that Apple would be the world's first Trillion dollar company. I think that's a safe bet.
